When asked, "What is Liferay?" the first thing that comes to mind, trying to explain it to a real person, not in a technical way, is that they are windows to the world where it is possible to visualize, query, deploy, and display what meets the needs of each person and company that decides to use it. I would go as far as to say that Liferay can meet any need presented to it. In my personal opinion, anything is possible.

From here on, I will explain each section or functionality and mention how it can be used effectively. I would like to start with the concept of public and private pages.

Public pages: These are accessible without authentication and are geared toward providing information (visualization). Think of information websites, eCommerce, company policies, or a simple login window where you can access private pages.

To access private pages and enjoy their exclusive content, prior authorization is essential. These pages offer a personalized and restricted experience, ensuring the privacy and security of the information they contain. Only users with the appropriate permissions can access these pages, making them exclusive and selective spaces within the platform. The creation of private pages is an effective way to manage sensitive content and restrict access to certain users, thereby ensuring a controlled and protected digital experience.

All these functionalities are not mutually exclusive. It is possible to combine and manage your information site, catalog deployment, and enterprise portal on the same server with a single user account.

Layouts determine the structure and distribution of content on the page. Layouts allow you to visually and attractively organize portlets and other elements on the page, providing an intuitive navigation experience for users. You can choose from different layout designs according to your needs and preferences, allowing you to fully customize the appearance of your page. Additionally, layouts are entirely customizable, giving you the freedom to adjust and modify the content distribution dynamically. What can be a Portlet? Some examples include:

Thus, Liferay is composed of Sites, which in turn have pages. These pages are made up of a layout, and a layout contains itself.
